Compost Club

There ain’t no party like a compost party!

Compost Club is our fun and social space where we expertly craft living compost together.

Our team and volunteers gather to connect, learn and share our collective knowledge at the beautiful Waimarama Community Gardens, Nelson Whakatū.

Come get your hands dirty!

Each week, we build an epic new compost heap with the food waste collected by Community Compost.

People gardening outdoors, smiling, with one woman in a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, using a garden fork, and a man in a hat behind her, near a green shed, with gardening tools and compost bin nearby.

Free workout included!

We then turn the HOT maturing heaps, and learn through direct experience the best practice methods for managing healthy, living and safe compost. For those willing, it’s also great exercise!

A great place to make good friends

We are all volunteers, doing our bit to minimise food waste to landfill, create quality living compost to replenish soil systems, participate in circular economies and build community resilience.

Learn from the best

We combine hands-on composting experience with discussion, while sharing full explanations and guidance using the methods and theory we’ve developed over the last half-decade.

No previous experience needed

Everyone is welcome to attend. Participate, ask questions and learn about the art of composting and the intricate world of microorganisms.

Compost Club!

  • I've loved volunteering with Community Compost Club at the Community Gardens every Saturday morning here in Nelson. It's such a welcoming, caring, smart, and earth loving group of people and environment that has helped me build genuine community and make a meaningful difference for the planet. The compost is also top notch made with lots of love and so many nutrients that help my veggies thrive!!
